Bay Area Black Designers is a free community for Black design professionals in the SF Bay Area willing to network and boost their careers.
The community offers a safe environment to connect with colleagues and build new friendships. It's also a space to find help and support to grow in your career.
Although the community has its own website, members organize their get-togethers on Meetup. To join, you need to fill out a form with 3 questions. These relate to your experience, expectations, and verification of the requirements to join. Once you submit your application, the founder, Kat Vellos, will reach out to you within the following days.
Members are able to attend several learning and networking events. Some are in-person while others are virtual. Only members can access the location of each event. Also, you can check the members' list and the gallery section after joining the community.

Meetings
Once you join Bay Area Black Designers, you can participate in the community's meetups. These are usually in-person meetings to socialize with other black designers in the area. They are generally called "Friend Time for Black Designers". Location and other event details are exclusive to members.
Learning Events
Members often join in virtual and in-person learning events. These are commonly conferences where special guests discuss a particular topic. Also, they host Ted talks and workshops. On the Meetup group, you can find all the upcoming events, organized by date and title. Specific details and locations are exclusive to members.
Networking Events
Members interact through a group on Meetup. This is private so you need to fill out a form and apply to join. After joining, you will get access to full information about upcoming events. Also, the members' list and photos section will be available. As a plus, you will have access to a Slack group.
Content Library
The community gives members access to a gallery section and a members' directory with all the designers' contact information. Apart from this, you can discover more information and resources in the Slack group.
