The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) is a non-profit organization providing high-quality services and programs for black journalists.

Regardless of your experience and location, this community is open to everybody. From beginners to professionals and from American folks to people worldwide. Members serve and participate in student chapters. Some of these are meetings, workshops, panels, and local or regional conferences. As a member, you can join a committee according to your discipline and goals.

NABJ also focuses on expanding job opportunities and empowering black journalists. The idea is to motivate them to become entrepreneurs and assume management positions.

Additionally, NABJ provides scholarships and financial support for students every year. It also holds conventions, events, and training sessions. Besides, it hosts its own awards. As a plus, the community has a section of news and a calendar to keep members updated.

Learning Events

Members of NABJ join different learning events. The community has a calendar where you can see all upcoming events. The most common events are professional and student chapters. There are 130 chapters in different regions in the United States.

On the other hand, the community hosts diverse webinars. Once they are held, you can watch the replay on YouTube. Additionally, if you want to attend NABJ's regional conferences, you need previous registration. On top, there are conventions, which are macro events, each year.

Networking Events

Members of NABJ interact through networking events. These are mainly focused on building a network for black journalists and entrepreneurs. However, all learning events are also opportunities to interact with other members.

On the other hand, you can join the Convention and Career Fair. It brings together students, graduates, and professionals in a networking environment where they can connect and learn from each other.

Content Library

NABJ has a section on black news and views with diverse categories: National, Arts & Culture, Social Justice, COVID-19, Sports, Health & Wellness, Money, and Global. You can find constant updates in all categories.

There is also an image gallery from previous conventions and events. You can check the recordings of past webinars as well. In case you are interested in joining a chapter, the community provides a chapter toolkit and a digital handbook. Lastly, members are able to access three databases: producers, editors, and freelancers.
